Rote Oil was founded in 1948 by Butch Rote as an agent of Standard Oil. Butch supplied a wide variety of products to farmers, homeowners and retail station operators.
In 1973 Butch retired and turned the agency over to his son, Tucker Rote. Tucker operated as an agent until 1976, at which time he became a jobber. He expanded into the tires, batteries and accessories (TBA) market through the acquisition of a service station in the Lake Geneva area as well as supplying local operators.
In 1990, Tucker sold the business to his son in law, and present owner, David Schwartz. Since then Dave has acquired or built multiple retail sites to grow the company portfolio. Rote Oil is also a franchisee for Burger King, Subway and Cousins Subs. The dealer network has grown as well, expanding outside of Wisconsin into Illinois.
